Abstract

Niosomes are a novel drug delivery system, in which the medication is encapsulated in a vesicle. Noisome are non-ionic surfactant vesicles obtained by hydrating mixture of cholesterol and nonionic surfactants. It can be used as carriers of amphiphilic and lipophilic drug. The main objective of this review is application of noisome in various drug delivery systems depending upon their types and method of preparation. Niosomes improve the therapeutic performance of the drug molecules by delayed clearance from the circulation, protecting the drug from biological environment and restricting effects to target cells. The application of niosomal technology is widely used to treat a number of diseases. This article also present an overview of the techniques of preparation of niosome, types of niosomes and their evaluation parameters.
